Livability joins the call for protection of disability benefits
As part of the Disability Benefits Consortium (DBC), Livability has joined more than 60 other charities to call for no more cuts to disability benefits.
With the next General Election just days away, the DBC is urging people to sign an open letter to Party leaders explaining how vital it is to protect disability benefits.
There are more than 13 million disabled people in the UK, who spend an average of £550 a month on costs related to their impairment or condition. Many already find it difficult to manage these additional costs of living with a disability.
And as well as the costs to each person, there are huge costs to the UK economy. Many disabled people are not given adequate support when out of work, so they often need to rely more heavily on health and social care services.
Financial support is vital for disabled people and their families. It allows them to get out of the house, enter and stay in work for longer, pay their bills, spend time with friends and family and fulfil life goals.
We are asking for your commitment to protect disability benefits if you form the next Government.
