Ability Sunday 2020 – the Pilgrim Journey
Churches around the country are preparing to celebrate Livability’s Ability Sunday on Sunday 13 September, to highlight the gifts that people with disabilities bring to church life.
With this year’s theme of the ‘Pilgrim Journey’, churches are invited to use free Ability Sunday resources to plan an inclusive celebration. Ability Sunday helps churches to consider how truly welcoming and inclusive their church is to people with disabilities, their families and carers.
The Ability Sunday resource gives ideas and options for services and small group meetings in the digital space, as well as in a church building. Taking the theme of pilgrimage, the resources are based on the Gospel story of the road to Emmaus, a study of what it takes to change direction in life’s journey. In a year when many journeys have had to be abandoned, the tradition of pilgrimage offers us a different kind of journey – a spiritual, soul-journey.
Churches, faith groups and individuals can find out more and request Ability Sunday resources.
Start your journey
As part of this year’s Ability Sunday – The Pilgrim Journey, we also encourage everyone to support Livability by taking part in a virtual pilgrim challenge. This may be from home or in your community, completing one of many wonderful British pilgrim routes or selecting an overseas pilgrimage. We invite you to walk, trek, run, skip, cycle – whatever method you prefer, to complete the actual or equivalent miles of your chosen pilgrim journey. Over a day, a week or a month – this is your journey so you make the rules, we’ll just provide some tools to help you! Find out more.
Join us for the The Great Greenwich Virtual Quiz!
Later in September, Livability invites all its supporters to get together online for The Great Greenwich Virtual Quiz – Monday September 28, from 7-8.30pm.
This evening of fun and entertainment – a quiz, games, a raffle with brilliant prizes and an auction – will raise much-needed funds as the charity faces extra costs to keep the people with disabilities we support safe and healthy, during the pandemic.
